About Us
Welcome to Phoenix Model Aviation Ltd, here we endeavour to provide products and services relating purely to the wonderful and exciting world of radio controlled model helicopters. We offer one of the widest ranges of products and services you will find anywhere in the industry, and we pride ourselves on being able to provide that little bit extra.
Although our address given on all stationary is located in Trowbridge, our field is actually in Clutton, just south of Bristol on the A37. From there we run a majority of our flying activities and can often be found there if you want to just pop in for a chat, lessons permitting of course.
The company was only recently established, but our staff, both permanent and volunteers are extremely seasoned and experienced, so you can be assured of a high quality professional approach. They are not only very good pilots, but are also very good engineers, having worked on many of the models available, both past and present. We are also experienced in just about all aspects of model helicopters, from micro electrics right up to large jet turbine powered models.
Our chosen equipment includes the following brands, Thunder Tiger, OS Engines, Futaba, Quick UK and Model Technics. We have also teamed up with a number of local suppliers to provide additional products and services.
Our flying instructors are highly dedicated to the world of model helicopters, so if they are not at the field teaching, they are most often flying for themselves or some other reason, working on models or just chatting about them!
Our Instructors;

Hi, My name is Peter Milner, I am also known to many as “Raptorite” as I frequent a well known UK based model helicopter web site forum. I started flying model helicopters back in 1999, I have always been interested in aviation, particularly with models, I was given an old fuselage of a fixed wing aircraft by the people living next door to my grand parents when I was very young, too young in fact to make use of the model. Ever since I caught glimpse of a club who’s members were flying both fixed wing and helicopters during a visit to my ex parents in law many years ago, I was immediately fascinated by model helicopters.
Several years later I took the plunge, making the typical newbie mistake of buying second hand without knowing the first thing about model helicopters. At the time I was happy as larry with my purchase of a raptor 30V1 and a shuttle ZTS, complete with an old Futaba FF7 radio and a whole host of starting equipment and spares. I later found out that the previous owner had taken parts off the shuttle and had tried to graft them onto the raptor to replace parts he had damaged. Furthermore, the transmitter did not have the facility of storing setups for multiple models. I had a large garden at my house and access to a large and very secluded piece of land, so I attempted to teach myself to fly, or at least to be able to hover.
This proved to be a very frustrating and costly way of learning, so I sought the assistance of a model shop local to the office. I was advised to buy a new set of radio, significantly change the model and have it professionally setup and join proper club. It was from that point onwards that I really began to learn how to fly, as having the assistance of a number of people made a huge difference in the speed and ease of the learning process. My skills have progressed vastly since then and I finally go round to acquiring my BMFA “B” certificate a couple of years ago.
